Ignite Self Defence for kids aged 5-11

A full-day workshop experience for girls aged 8–12

IGNITE is a full-day workshop where girls spend the day moving, creating, playing and growing, and leave knowing themselves a little better than when they walked in.

Through art, games, role play and movement, she'll build the kind of inner confidence that shows up in the classroom, in the playground, in friendships, and in life.

The kind you can't grade. But she will feel empowered and everyone around her can't help but notice.

What does a day at IGNITE look like?

A full day of activities designed to build confidence from the inside out, including:

🎨 A creativity corner with art, crafts and bracelet making
Games and role play that build awareness and quick thinking
Conversations that help her understand herself and her friendships
🛡️ Age-appropriate self-protection skills built through games and movement, so her body knows what to do before fear kicks in

No belts. No competitions. No pressure.

Just a really fun day that empowers girls from the inside out

Why does this matter right now?

We all know the world our daughters are growing up in.

The friendship fallouts, the online pressure, the times where they don't quite know how to speak up, or don't feel like they're allowed to.

IGNITE gives them tools they'll actually use. Not just for the scary stuff, but for putting their hand up in class, saying no to a friend when they mean it, walking into a room and knowing they belong there.

The self-protection skills are woven in because we believe every girl deserves to feel safe in her body. But the confidence she builds here reaches far beyond that.

This is not about fighting. It's about confidence in real life, socially, emotionally, and physically.

What your daughter will carry home

  • The ability to recognise when something feels wrong, and trust it

  • A stronger, clearer voice she knows how to use

  • Tools to navigate friendships, pressure, and tricky situations

  • A body that knows how to respond before panic sets in

  • And something she made with her own hands to remind her of all of it

A bit about your instructor

Led by me, Bex Hogan, a female fully qualified kids instructor, NLP master practitioner, and mum of two young girls.

I was bullied at school. For years I carried that, quietly, invisibly, right into adulthood and into my business, without even realising. I kept myself small because somewhere along the way I'd learned that was safer.

Then I decided I'd had enough of that.

I went to work on myself. Really went to work. I trained as an NLP master practitioner, I started tuning into who I actually am, what I actually want, and I stopped abandoning myself. Now I help other women do the same.

In 2025, with two young girls of my own, I trained to become a qualified kids self-defence instructor with Strike Back, the world's largest women's self-defence organisation. I didn't want my daughters to carry what I carried. And I didn't want any girl to.

But I also knew the self-defence world wasn't built for girls like mine. It's heavy. It's masculine. It feels like fighting. So I decided to change that.

IGNITE is what happens when self-defence meets creativity, play, and genuine confidence-building. Where girls learn to protect themselves without even realising how much they're growing.

Every girl should know this stuff. Not as a last resort, as a foundation.

That's what I'm here to build.

GOT MORE QUESTIONS?

You can email me at [email protected] if you have any questions

I'm always happy to help!

Is this safe?

Completely. All physical activities are age-appropriate, calm, and carefully structured. This is not sparring, fighting, or contact sport. Everything is taught through games, movement, and role play in a controlled, supportive environment.

My daughter is shy, will she be okay?

She'll be in good company. Many of the girls who come to IGNITE start quiet and leave loud — in the best way. Confidence isn't demanded here, it's grown. I was that shy girl too, which is exactly why I built this the way I did.

What actually happens on the day?

A full day of movement, creativity, games, and conversation — 10am to 4pm. Girls rotate through activities including role play, art and craft, awareness games, and age-appropriate self-protection skills taught through play. There's also a quiet corner if anyone needs to step back and breathe. No two workshops are identical but every one is built around the same thing, girls leaving feeling more like themselves.

Do you teach fighting?

No. IGNITE is not martial arts. There are no belts, no competitions, no sparring. The physical skills we teach are simple, practical, and designed to help a girl create space and get away safely if she ever needs to. They're taught through games and movement, not pressure.

What age is this for?

Girls aged 8–12. The activities are designed to work across that range, older girls tend to go deeper into the conversations, younger ones often surprise you most with the physical skills.

How big are the groups?

Small. Intentionally. Every girl needs to feel seen and that doesn't happen in a crowd.

What should my daughter bring?

Comfortable clothes she can move in, a packed lunch, snacks, and a water bottle. Everything else is provided.

Will you have workshops near us?

I'm currently confirming venues across the area. Register your interest in the form above and let us know what works best for you, your responses genuinely shape where we go next.

I have a question that isn't here.

Just email me at [email protected]. I will come back to you as soon as I can.
